. the conservative columnist charles krauthammer is driving the same thing now. it is still really senator john mccain. over the past week senator john mccain made six different television appearances just to talk about the benghazi attack and obama administration cover-up of the attack making his case over and over and over again to any blinking red light within sight about how benghazi should not be viewed as an attack on a u.s. consulate but instead be viewed as a democratic lie. an obama scandal. the senate needs more information about this blatant cover-up, says john mccain. john mccain needs more information. this, for example, is john mccain convening a press conference yesterday morning denouncing the scandal that congress is not being given enough information about this horrible scandal that he can't get any answers on. while john mccain was demanding answers at this press conference, that he convened yesterday morning, some of this colleagues, from a committee that he's a member of, were getting answers. on the subject that he was so mad about. john mccain was missing a three-hour high-l

better ingredients and better pizza, why not better health care? sam stein on papa john's problem with obama care. >>> good to have you with us. thanks for watching. more bad news for republicans this week. their history of obstruction is coming back to haunt them. president obama made it clear friday he will insist on getting rid of the bush tax cuts for the wealthy in a new economic plan. congressional republicans are playing tough in public instead of tax increases on the rich they are pushing nonspecific tax reform. >> it's clear that there are a lot of special interest loopholes. >> we can increase revenue without increasing the tax rates on anybody in this country. we can lower the rates, broaden the base. >> eliminate all these tax credits and tax deductions. you can generate $1 trillion in revenue. you can lower tax rates by doing this. >> eric cantor put the talking points together in a letter to republicans. what would be sbes a fundamental reform of the tax code that lowers rates, broadens the base, makes america's businesses kpet ty again. let's see here now. lowering
you see this? >> senator john mccain and senator lindsey graham both said today that they want to have watergate-style hearings on the attack at the u.s. consulate in benghazi. and that if you nominate susan rice for secretary of state, they will do everything in their power to block her nomination. as senator graham said, he simply doesn't trust ambassador rice after what she said about benghazi. i would like your reaction to that and would those threats deter from making a nomination like that? >> first of all, i'm not going to comment at this point on various nominations that i'll put forward to fill out my cabinet for the second term. those are things that are still being discussed. but let me say specifically about susan rice. she has done exemplary work. she has represented the united states and our interests in the united nations with skill and professionalism and toughness and grace. as i've said before, she made an appearance at the request of the white house in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her. if senator mccain and senat
is that john of the other republicans ever liked mitt romney and he didn't do anything during the campaign to endear himself to them. don't forget, he attacked them all in the primaries. this is kind of the revenge of the clowns here. he knocked them off one at a time. he sort of knocked them over in iowa and elsewhere around the campaign trail. number two, his campaign was based on a negative. it was based on the idea that he would have to win because president obama was so bad. there was no philosophy to it. mitt romney's campaign was kind of the end of the line of the conservative era that began coherently with ronald reagan in 1980. mitt romney was the ultimate remainder man. that's why they have an easier time of dumping on him right now. >> so the clown car has backed up to run over mitt romney. that's the image for the night tonight. >> yes, it is. >> like that woman who didn't like her husband, remember she drove over her husband in the parking lot and drove over him again. i don't want to get involved in that legal case but i do remember the pictures. let's go to john heilemann he

. happening now. another top commander in a widening scandal swirling around general david petraeus. john allen is now the subject of a pentagon investigation. it centers around hundreds, possibly thousands of e-mails sent to this woman. details of where she fits into an increasingly tangled web of relationships. i'll talk about all of this with the chair of the senate intelligence committee. dianne feinstein says it is like something off the front page of a tab roid mloid magazine and s demanding answers. i'm wolf blitzer and you're in "the situation room." >>> we begin with stunning twists in the scandal that brought down the head of the cia, general david petraeus. another u.s. general is caught in the same tangled web. john allen, top commander in afghanistan, is being investigated by the pentagon for allegedly sending inappropriate e-mails to a married woman, the same woman whose complaint of threatening e-mails from general petraeus' lover cracked the scandal wide open. barbara starr is trying to sort this out for us. it is rather complicated, what's the latest you're getting? >> it
're digging their heels in. instead we saw joshing around the table about john boehner's birthday between the president and john boehner. is it any different, or is this just about, i don't know, smoke and mirrors? >> well, i think the atmosphere is certainly different as you mentioned. in the past, these guys would go back to capitol hill and put out competing statements about what went on during the meetings. you saw what happened last year during the debt ceiling negotiations. this time it was one big happy family. there certainly seems to be some sort of recognition on the part of how fed up american people with sort of the seeing this game of chicken being played at such a high stakes time. i think there is certainly, after this election, there is kind of a let's get down to business. let's see if we can get this thing done. whether that can translate -- david just said, the biggest sticking point, taxes on the wealthy is still on the table. you can sing happy birthday to john boehner as much as you want. gwen: he would still say no. >> absolutely. i think it's really premature to tr
